Candidates will be participating in a Candidate Forum hosted by the Duneland Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, April 2 to be held from 8:30 am – 10:00 am at the Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso. The event will offer guests the opportunity to meet and hear from the candidates representing the Duneland Communities and the state of Indiana. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.

Fiber Art ’24: Duneland Weavers’ Guild

Fiber Art ’24: The Duneland Weavers’ Guild will be showcasing their work April 6-29 at Chesterton Art Gallery, in the front (upper) gallery space. An opening reception featuring the artists, items for sale, and prize drawings will be held on April 7, from 1-4 PM, with a style show at 2 PM. Members of the Duneland Weavers’ Guild will be presenting various weaving demonstrations at CAC throughout their exhibition.  Chris Acton will be in the gallery on April 19 from 1-3 PM, Sue Degnan and Margaret Jones on April 20 from 12- 2PM, and Roz Potter on April 27 from 10 AM-12 PM. Artists demonstrations are free to attend and all are welcome. 

The talented artists of the Guild have been busy creating original handwoven and knitted shawls, scarves, linens, wall hangings and more. You can purchase items on-site at the Art Center during the exhibition.

Weaving is a lively art in Northwest Indiana. The Duneland Weavers’ Guild has met monthly for more than seventy years, September through May. Current fiber artists, or those wishing to learn weaving are invited to join the Guild. Meetings are held via Zoom or in person at Three Moons Fiberworks in Chesterton. Expressive Minds: CAC Youth Art Exhibition

Expressive Minds is the CAC Youth Art Exhibition, running April 6-29 in the lower gallery space. An opening reception celebrating the young artists and their work is scheduled for April 12, from 5-6:30 PM.

Expressive Minds highlights the work of CAC’s in-house and outreach youth + teen students, ages 5-18, who participated in CAC programming between September 2023-March 2024. Household Hazardous Waste or “HHW” are unwanted products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients that require special care upon disposal. The Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction District hosts events throughout the county in which residents can safely dispose of these materials.

Accepted materials include household cleaners, pesticides, kerosene, gasoline, oil-based paints, antifreeze, solvents and much more. A longer list of accepted items can be found at www.portercountyrecycling.org.
Please Note: Electronics or latex paints will NOT be accepted at any Household Hazardous Waste Collection events.

Chesterton Art Fair is a premier juried art festival with a deep history of providing a stellar experience for both participating artists and visitors. In its 65th year, Chesterton Art Fair draws artists and patrons from all over the Midwest and beyond. The Fair features 90+ artists, live music, family activities, food vendors and free parking for our almost four thousand visitors.

Always the first full weekend in August, this year’s dates are August 3 and 4, 2024, and fair hours are 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, and 10 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. Chesterton Art Fair is held in beautiful Dogwood Park, a municipal park with plenty of shade trees and amenities.

NEW IN 2024--three artist prizes will be given! $500.00 for best in show, $300.00 for 1st prize, and $200.00 for 2nd prize. Prizes will be awarded on Saturday August 3 after the fair opens and will be determined by the Chesterton Art Fair entry juror. 

Proceeds from the fair support Chesterton Art Center (CAC), a non-profit arts organization providing high-quality educational and outreach programs that serve hundreds of students of all ages, a calendar of exhibitions that showcase local and regional artists, and various community events and partnerships that bring the arts to the Duneland community and beyond.
